Media Training 2017 Applications Are Now Open
LOOKING TO BUILD YOUR SKILLS IN CREATING COMPELLING CONTENT? PASSIONATE ABOUT DEVELOPING YOUR VOICE AND STORYTELLING SKILLS? INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN MEDIA?
The Media Training Program is a 20-week capacity building program that works with aspiring media creators to develop and distribute compelling digital media content while providing essential leadership and industry-recognized soft skills.
Participants are given a space to develop digital media projects while receiving mentorship, training and guidance from industry professionals. Participants also get the opportunity to work with innovative leadership trainers to enhance their communication, negotiation, goal management, teamwork and leadership skills.
The combination of this programming creates a 360-degree training experience that builds both the soft and hard skills highly in demand in the media industry.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
If accepted into the Media Training Program, you are joining not a student but as a team member responsible for producing content, bringing your ideas and talent to the table and contributing to an overall successful learning environment. While participants do receive training and mentorship in various aspects of production and content creation, the Media Training Program is run as an “incubator style” place of learning and development. This means that the learning environment is less about formal instruction and more about creating a space for exploration, risk taking, growth and development. In other words – you get out what you put in.
POV 3rd Street is also unique in that we focus on exposing participants to film, tv and commercial industries, and helping them discover the career paths that excite them and they can excel at. While we welcome participants with all kinds of talents, those with an interest in these fields are especially encouraged to apply.
For the last 6 weeks of the program, participants focus on developing their own final projects either as individuals or in groups.
In addition to creating content, participants are tasked with distributing and promoting their work – learning about the different content platforms and strategies to better connect with their audiences.
The Media Training Program starts in January 2017 and runs for 20 weeks until May 2017.
Participants must be available and commit to attending 2 sessions a week: Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and Saturdays from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
Wednesday sessions are held at Radke Films at 125 George Street and Saturday sessions are held at multiple locations in downtown Toronto.
